Possibly my favourite Valentino show of recent years (besides the Fall Winter 2014/2015 show). A different direction with pieces and combinations that remind me of Dries Van Noten, yet there's a strong African vibe and undertone to everything, from the models' hair to use of cowrie and periwinkle shells in jewellery, brass sculpture detailing, traditional woven motifs and geometric patterns, waist beads, sandals, leather, animal prints, raffia, cave paintings…
Most times when African roots inspire collections, it usually doesn't translate so seamlessly and often ends up forced/unoriginal. Here there's an undeniable element of Valentino with the styling being remarkably similar to earlier collections, yet all these other elements shine through to make it equally unique.
And anyone who can make a spring/summer collection have so many dark clothes without falling flat wins multiple stars in my book.

quite frankly as much as this was a good collection, definitely and improvement on the haute couture, I still have to admit that
I miss the original aesthetic element of Ludovico's strong modern woman. In some way this falls a bit short. Refer to RTW ss 2007 then compare to this…. the feel just isn't the same and I miss that glam element which made Valentino, Valentino!

Stunning and truly elegant, but there's a certain lack of 'joy' in the pieces(unlike D&G) and I DO wish some of the models didnt look as if someone had snatched their sweeties.
